WHEN ARE THE CLASSES? South Miami Martial Arts Free Community Self-Defense Classes (try making an acronym out of THAT!) are held on the first Saturday of every month from 2-4 p.m. (4:00 give or take. We may end early, may stay late). Exceptions are when class days fall on government holidays. In that case, we simply move the class to the following Saturday. If you have any doubts, you may call the dojo at 305-265-7404 to confirm. WHERE ARE THE CLASSES? The classes are held at the South Miami Taekwondo dojo, located at 4542-B SW 75th Ave, Miami, FL 33155. WHAT WILL WE LEARN? We will use elements of many martial arts like Taekwondo, Aikido, Karate, Jiu Jitsu and Tai Chi to develop a wide vocabulary of technical combat options. We will study and become familiar with common assault weapons like hand guns, shot guns, knives and blunt objects. Fitness actually plays a role in self-defense, and so sometimes we will include rigorous cardio or strength training. Most important, however, will be our discussions, lectures and debates concerning criminal statistics, criminal pshychology and violent crime history. Repetitive dialogue on these subjects reinforces good self-defense instincts and capitalizes on our greatest combat asset - the human mind. SOUNDS GOOD - WHAT'S THE CATCH? There is indeed something in it for South Miami Martial Arts: YOU! We're hoping that if you enjoy the self-defense classes, you may invite a friend. And then maybe one or both of you will decide to take it to the next level and become a martial artist - and perhaps even TEACH the self-defense class one day. Above all, however, is our desire to serve our community.
